Welcome to Cessnas 2 Oshkosh 2010
Welcome to our Cessnas 2 Oshkosh Mass Arrival into AirVenture Oshkosh - The World's Greatest Aviation Celebration! It is 2010 already, time to get out from under the rock, shake off the winter blues and begin the journey to Oshkosh.

As we have done the previous two years, we again partnered with the Cessna Pilots Association to conduct the 2010 mass arrival. Our partnership has two successful arrivals under the belt and we are looking forward to many more in the years to come. John Frank, founder and executive director of the Cessna Pilots Association, and his very capable staff, will again coordinate with the Experimental Aircraft Association's security and ground staff personnel a seamless arrival.

Cessna is playing a major role in our event this year, including sponsoring several components of our post-arrival celebration at Cessna Base Camp and the recognition of Centurion owners and pilots with commemorative coins specially minted for the ocassion. John Frank and Rodney Swanson are currently engaged with Cessna's top brass, planning the details of what is promising to become the biggest Cessnas 2 Oshkosh celebration ever.

This is a special year for Cessna owners and pilots. We have something unique to celebrate. 2010 is the 50th anniversary of the venerable C210 Centurion. The first prototype of the Centurion was flown in 1957 but it was not until late in 1959 that Cessna announced the addition of the Centurion to the its line of products with the introduction of the 1960 models. For more information on the history of the Centurion, we recommend two articles by John Frank available to members in the publications section of the Cessna Pilots Association website.

We are extending a special invitation to every Centurion owner to join us in the 50th anniversary celebration of one of Cessna classics. It will be unforgettable!

Last year's event was a total blast and we want to build upon that experience as we move forward to insure the continued success of our arrival and the celebration that follows in the North 40 for the entire week of AirVenture. We have addressed all the concerns and comments voiced during and after last year's arrival and have made changes to our procedures that will be reflected at all levels of our operation. Among the changes is the planning of two training clinic dates for most locations to allow scheduling flexibility for our participants and to provide an alternative for unexpected adverse weather.

We're looking forward to seeing you again in one of our clinics, in the flight briefing in Juneau and safely on the ground at Oshkosh. As we continue to polish our operation, we feel confident that you will be duly impressed with the improvements we are making. Thank you for your interest in Cessnas 2 Oshkosh!

Blue Skies,

Rodney Swanson, Craig Chipley and Gil Velez
To Fly Our Mass Arrival...
To fly our mass arrival a pilot must register on our website, pay the registration fee, attend at least one of our formation flight training clinics between March and July of this year and be present at Dodge County Airport (KUNU) in Juneau, Wisconsin by 11:00 CDT on Saturday July 24th to participate in the flight briefing. These requirements are not negotiable. The first seventy-five (75) pilots to meet these requirements will fly the 2010 Cessnas 2 Oshkosh mass arrival.

The registration process is simple. All it takes is a visit to our website, clicking on the Registration tab at the top of every page and answering a few questions. Our website will be ready for registration after February 1st. Pilots who registered to fly the 2008 or 2009 mass arrival, whether they flew the mass arrival or not, can save time during the registration process by retrieving their information from our database. To do so, they just need to follow the appropriate link on our registration page and log in using the same email address and zip code entered in the previous registration. If the email address and zip code match the information in our database, the registration form will be populated with the data previously submitted. After making any necessary corrections and answering any new questions, the registration form will be ready for submission.

The last step in the registration process is the fee payment. The registration fee will cover the cost of the polo shirt with our embroidered logo that each participating pilot and passenger will wear during the arrival, the name tag, the BBQ dinner ticket and the now famous breakfasts at Rodney's kitchen in our tent at Cessna Base Camp. The registration fee is $50.00 per person. Children up to the age of 12 will not incur a fee. The payment process is simple and intuitive. A PayPal account or any major credit card may be used.

Formation Training Clinics
We are in the process of putting together the schedule of clinics for 2010. Every pilot who hosted or led a clinic last year and every pilot who volunteered to host or lead a clinic should have received a message from us within the past two weeks. The message is a call to action and contains guidelines and plans for organizing a clinic. If you offered to host or lead a clinic and you did not receive an email message from us, please contact our director of training and operations, Rodney Swanson at Rodney@cessnas2oshkosh.com.

We know that there are obstacles to attend a clinic, conflicting personal, work-related or family commitments, the distance to the clinic location and the associated flight expenses, and weather. In order to avoid or minimize the impact of these obstacles we are making great efforts such as posting the schedule of clinics from the start of our recruiting and registration process; scheduling clinics in as many locations as possible and scheduling the great majority of the clinics for the spring and summer months to take advantage of the better weather conditions for most of the nation. We're also planning two dates for each location, not a "rain date" but an entirely separate date. We need as many of you as possible to step up to the plate and help us in this effort.

We know that no matter how much planning we put into it, weather is unpredictable and can change without notice. A clinic cancellation is in order when adverse weather conditions are forecasted. It is our policy to inform each pilot of such cancellation via email message or telephone call. In that notification an alternative date will be included. We expect pilots to make every effort to attend the rescheduled clinic. Be flexible and plan accordingly. It is important that we accomplish the training of every pilot prior to the meetup in Juneau.

Our Mission
The Pirep is the official newsletter of Cessnas 2 Oshkosh. Its purpose is to keep all the participants in the Cessnas 2 Oshkosh Mass Arrival and our friends informed about our progress. It is published monthly, with additional issues published if the need arises.
Tragedy in Haiti
It is our policy not to comment on subjects other than our mass arrival and related activities but, Cessnas 2 Oshkosh could not remain silent in the face of a tragedy of such magnitude. The suffering of the People of Haiti saddens our hearts.

We sincerely hope that the relief efforts by the global community, spearheaded by the United States of America, bring the much needed aid to Haiti in and expeditious and sustained way.

To all our pilots and friends with relatives and friends in Haiti, and to all our Haitian American brothers and sisters, Cessnas 2 Oshkosh would like to express our deepest sympathies and sincere wishes to an end of the suffering.
