Dear Cessnas 2 Oshkosh Pilots and Friends:

As the day of the mass arrival gets closer and the excitement grows, we look back with pride at our accomplishments as a grassroots pilot organization. The stats quoted on the left column speak for itself. We are confident of meeting our stated goals; to train 75 Cessna pilots and enthusiasts to stage a safe mass arrival into Oshkosh, camp together at Cessna BaseCamp in the North 40 and have the most fun possible while doing it.

Today, we want to direct your attention to another one of our goals: to have every PIC that is taking part in the mass arrival wear the same attire, consiting of a red polo shirt and a black and white cap, both with our embroidered emblem. Every co-pilot and/or companion should wear a blue or white polo shirt with the black and white cap. Dressing uniformly will add a professional touch, help us stand out in the crowd at Oshkosh and will make for a great group photo.

In addition, the proceeds from the sale of these items will help offset the cost of our operations. We kept prices reasonable by avoiding merchant accounts, online credit card processing and other forms of third-party payment and their accompanying fees.

Please contribute to our cause, purchase your custom made commemorative Cessnas 2 Oshkosh 2008 merchandise! Avoid the last minute delays, do it now.

The Pirep is the official newsletter of Cessnas 2 Oshkosh. It is a vehicle to keep all the participants in the Cessnas 2 Oshkosh 2008 Mass Arrival and our friends informed about the progress made on the road to Oshkosh 2008. It is published on the first day of each month. Extra issues will be published when the need arises.
3rd Annual BBQ Dinner

Our Third Annual Cessnas 2 Oshkosh BBQ Dinner will take place on Monday July 28th at 5:00 p.m. at Cessna Base Camp in the North 40. This dinner is not to be confused with the CPA BBQ at the Hilton on the next day.

As in previous years, the BBQ dinner will be catered by La Sure's, the best caterer in Oshkosh. The menu will consist of beer brats, angus burgers, fried chicken, boneless pork chops, potato salad, baked beans, oven potatoes, pasta salad, drinks, condiments, and sweets.

Dinner will be followed by an animated presentation by Capt. Denis Murphy, author of the book "Pan-Pan-Pan. My Plane Is On Fire", on his personal ditching experience.

Please come out and support our annual BBQ dinner. Purchase your tickets on our secure website. Ticket price is $16.00.

Next Formation Flight Clinics
Sign up for any of these clinics.
We encourage every registered pilot to participate in a clinic prior to the July 25th clinic in Juneau. We anticipate a busy Juneau clinic and the weather in Wisconsin during the summer is unpredictable. Nevertheless we want to reafirm that every pilot present at the Juneau clinic will train and have the opportunity to qualify for the mass arrival.

Self-Proficiency Formation Training Tip
Next time you go flying, practice this exercise. After lift-off, accelerate to 90 knots in a C-172, 110 in a C-182 and 130 in a C-205/206/207/210 and maintain this speed throughout the exercise. Make smooth attitude and power adjustments to climb at a rate of 500 fpm or less. Maintaining airspeed is primary, rate of climb is secondary. Climb to a cruise altitude of 2,000 AGL and retrim to maintain airspeed and cruise altitude. Practice standard and half-standard rate turns and descents at 500 fpm maintaining your target speed at all times. Take notice of the power settings required for the different phases of your flight.
