The preflight phase of the Cessnas 2 Oshkosh 2008 Mass Arrival is proceeding at a steadfast pace. The interim results surpass our own estimates. A total of one-hundred-sixteen (116) pilots have registered on our website. Of these, fifty-eight (58) have confirmed their participation in the actual mass arrival flight. An additional ten (10) who are not flying the mass arrival have reserved camping space at Cessna Base Camp, nine (9) have expressed interest in the activity but are not ready yet to make a commitment and thirty-nine (39) Skywagon pilots have pre-registered to fly the arrival awaiting validation. Read the article on the Skywagon group. Twenty-four (24) states, including Alaska, three (3) Canadian provinces, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario and the neutral country of Switzerland are represented. Sixteen (16) pilots have taken part in formation training clinics and are qualified to fly the arrival with the group.

We are extremely happy with these numbers but can't become complacent. We believe the number of pilots signed up for training could be better. Training is the key to our success. Safety is our main goal. Participation in a formation training clinic must be the most immediate aviation goal of every pilot registered to fly the arrival. We live in difficult times and most of us are extremely busy but the success of this activity is at stake. We encourage every pilot registered to fly the arrival to make an extra effort to sign up for one of the formation training clinics. The schedule of clinics can be found here in the newsletter and on our website at www.cessnas2oshkosh.com/clinics.aspx.

Rodney, our Director of Training and Operations, is working hard recruiting and organizing resources to set up more clinics. There are concrete plans for a clinic in Virginia towards the end of June to serve the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic participating pilots. If you believe you are able to host a clinic, know experienced formation flight pilots or have resources available to organize a clinic, contact Rodney at Rodney@cessnas2oshkosh.com
The Pirep is the official newsletter of Cessnas 2 Oshkosh. It is a vehicle to keep all the participants in the Cessnas 2 Oshkosh 2008 Mass Arrival and our friends informed about the progress made on the road to Oshkosh 2008. It is published on the first day of each month. Extra issues will be published when the need arises.

A message from your crew: Rodney, Craig & Gil
We are honored to be able to continue the tradition of Cessnas 2 Oshkosh. Each of us is gainfully employed in our real day jobs. Cessnas 2 Oshkosh is our passion. We are not funded by the Cessna Pilots Association nor do we have a corporate or individual sponsor. Cessnas 2 Oshkosh's expenses are covered by our own personal funds.

We are calling upon those of business owners or employees of businesses who can donate door prizes or make a monetary contribution to our cause. To contribute, visit our website and look for the new Contribute tab soon to appear in every page.

All three of us are truly honored to be able to organize this event and participate in what we hope will be the ultimate Cessna event of the year. Keep up the enthusiasm as we look forward to seeing you at one of the clinics and at Juneau in July.

The shirts are available in three colors; red, navy blue and white. The pilot cap is available in one unisex style. The shirts are made of improved heavier-weight 6.5-oz. fabric, 60% cotton and 40% polyester, with the strongest stitching ideal for embroidery. The material is stain and fade resistant. The look is classic with a generous, roomy cut, soft ribbed collar and banded sleeves. The placket has 3 wood-tone buttons and backed with a half-moon sweat patch.

We kept prices reasonable and affordable thanks in no small part to the fact that Cessnas 2 Oshkosh is not profiting from the sale of this merchandise. In addition. we decided not to deal with merchant accounts avoiding the cost of online credit card and other forms of third-party payment processing. We rely on the honor system. You order your merchandise and mail us a check and we will ship your merchandise as soon as delivered by the vendor. The proceeds of the sales will help offset the cost of our operations. Details about the ordering process can be found on our online store.

A note about the the Cessnas 2 Oshkosh 2008 pilot's attire...

We are asking every participating pilot, copilot and companion to wear a Cessnas 2 Oshkosh custom shirt and cap. Every PIC should wear a red shirt. Copilots and companions can choose between blue and white shirts and would also wear the pilot cap. Dressing uniformly will add a professional touch to our presentation, help us stand out in the crowd and will make for a fantastic photo shoot. Two professional photographers will be on hand to videotape our arrival and parking opertion. EAA news personnel will also cover our activity. Rest assure, we have not lost our perspective, we're doing the arrival for fun and are just adding a touch of elegance.

Next Formation Flight Clinics
Sign up for any of these clinics.
We encourage every registered pilot to participate in a clinic prior to the July 25th clinic in Juneau. We anticipate a busy Juneau clinic and the weather in Wisconsin during the summer is unpredictable. Nevertheless we want to reafirm that everyone registered for the Juneau clinic will have the opportunity to train and qualify for the mass arrival.
Dothan Formation Flight Training Clinic. A Success!
The third formation flight training clinic in preparation for the Cessnas 2 Oshkosh 2008 Mass Arrival was successfully completed last Saturday April 19th at Dothan Regional Airport (KDHN) in Dothan, Alabama.
Gil, Tom, Ed, Jeff and Rodney in Dothan, Alabama. Five pilots participated, among them Rodney Swanson, our Director of Training and Operations and lead pilotfo the clinic; Gil Velez, our webmaster. Tom, Jeff and Ed completed the crew.
The clinic was initially delayed because of weather, the one aviation variable that we pilots cannot control. The enthusiasm and persistence of all the participants paid off. The beautiful afternoon turned out to be perfect for flying and the practice flight went extremely well. Four more pilots fulfilled the first requirement to fly the mass arrival.

Our next formation training clinic is set for June 7th at 9:00 a.m. CDT at the Newton City/County Airport in Newton, Kansas.
